Dead Snatch Kettlebell Snatch Challenge:
Welcome to Encinitas, California! Ground zero for this week’s workout on Kettlebell Movement, a twenty minute challenge of pushups and snatches. This combination of exercises is one of my favorite of all time. I love the push/pull combination that builds strength and stamina in your entire body. This workout isn’t for the beginner and before attempting it you should be extremely practiced with your kettlebell snatch so you almost can’t get it wrong. The high repetitions in this workout will test your focus, so be prepared for a tough session. I am using a seventy pound bell which is about one third of my bodyweight. Even though this workout is high reps I’m not exactly going light with my weight. The reason for this is first and foremost I know I can do it and second because when using proper technique the seventy pound bell isn’t that heavy. This workout is about utilizing and practicing excellent technique rather than trying to go heavy.
I am adding push ups to complement this kettlebell challenge because they train very different muscles than snatches do. They also allow your grip a moment to rest while keeping the heart rate and intensity up. I will do ten rounds of ten snatches and ten push ups, totaling one hundred of each in the twenty minute period. I made the mistake of using an analog clock to time this workout and lost track of time. I know I completed it in under my twenty minute goal, I think I was at around eighteen minutes. To be honest, by the time I was done, everything was a little hazy. Make sure you warmup well before you begin this workout and that you open your shoulders to prepare for the overhead lifting.
Today’s Workout:
Ten rounds
- Ten Snatches
- Ten pushups
- Twenty Minutes
Make sure to find the right weight for you. I am using about one third of my bodyweight for this insane kettlebell workout. This routine is one that you can come back to time and time again, using heavier weights or beating your previous time. Remember to stay focused and use excellent form in both the snatches and push ups. I hope you enjoy this workout as much as I do, it is one of my very favorites. The strength you build from this workout will cement your excellent technique, allowing you to lift even heavier and heavier with the same perceived exertion. If you train with me today you will be using this strength again soon as I move up even higher in weight and help you develop maximal strength in the kettlebell snatch.
Thanks for working out with me today!
