Holistic Lifestyle

I have been playing with my feet in the grass all day and I have so much positive energy and gratitude. As I spend time outside, it gives me a chance to reflect on the positive ways a holistic lifestyle has impacted my health and wellbeing. I thought I should share with you some of the principles that have made me so grateful.

Let’s take a few minute to talk about what I teach exactly so as you progress you will have a better idea of the direction we’re headed in and why. The overall philosophy of doing what is consistent with your ancient biology is one of the ideas that drew me to kettlebell training over a decade ago. That simple concept has been the basis for everything I do and teach in the name of health.

The choices people make in the name of health that are completely out of sync with their biology is honestly astounding! Utilizing exercise equipment that is totally outside of any normal motor pattern you would perform in the real world, or lifting a free weight in a way that focuses all of its load on a single muscle. It could be sucking down protein powders at the gym or toxic-waste looking beverages that probably glow at night when the lights are off. Even cutting calories (and nutrition) trying to lose weight and keep it off are not in sync with your biology.

None of these choices have anything to do with health, and yet they are in every health club on the planet.

Holism means treating everything like it is an integrated part of a whole, that is how your body works when interacting with the real world. Your practice, whatever it may be, will benefit you far more if it’s holistic. Kettlebell training and health in general are all a practice that you must learn to master uniquely. Your practice must be different than others because your genetics and environment aren’t the same. Teach yourself how to listen to your body and turn your health and wellbeing into a practice every day.

True Fitness For Doing More with Less, The Kettlebell Philosophy

Kettlebells are about doing more with less, you will learn to do this in every sense of the word. Try to stay process oriented and learn only from a master of the art. Beware of the cross training gyms that use them in their training, rarely are they safe and injury is common. Use your judgment and discern how much attention to detail any teacher is paying to what you are doing. Every rep should be observed at first, from many angles to ensure safety. If you use my instructional material, it is a good idea to team up with a friend so you can help each other succeed.
