Endurance Workouts

Hells Bells

When you first start learning kettlebells the versatility of them becomes clear, this quickly turns into the creation of some cool combination drills that you couldn’t do with a dumbbell or barbell.

During one of my experiments I came up with a drill that seemed to flow better than any others and hit every muscle just right. It was such a complicated series that I couldn’t give it a name based on the moves involved and just called it hells bells. Moving forward a decade, this combination has stood the test of time and now I’m bringing it to you.

Hells bells uses two kettlebells for a squat thrust out to plank then push up, renegade row each hand and squat thrust back to a clean and jerk with both bells. In this video I use two lightweight bells and go through twenty reps without stopping. This move seems to lend itself more to the higher rep endurance workouts than the heavy lifting day but feel free to go lower reps and heavier weight if you like.

I also think it would make a good tabata round and there’s a good chance I will bring you “kettlebells tabata III” with hells bells involved. Give this combo a try and add it in to your workouts, do your first twenty with me today so you can listen to my audio cues and also watch the visual ones to get the combo down.

It’s always fun to mix things up and it also helps you see the best results when you train so I hope you like the drill. After you have learned kettlebell basics take some time to experiment with them yourself and find other fun and challenging combos to keep it interesting.

Until next time,
